Slightly biased as it was the town were I was born so I was not a complete stranger to the town. Had only passed through over the past 50 years. It is a nice town, adequate shops and catering options for a short stay. There are several hotels and I imagine they have restaurants and lounge bars, the Station Hotel definitely has. There are several walks around the area - I picked up a leaflet showing these. There is a nice picnic and parking area down by the river Ythan. There is a cycling/walking path along what used to be a railway line which is ideal for getting to some local villages. The bus service from Aberdeen is perfectly adequate and there is also a park and ride scheme and retail park on the outskirts of the town. Ellon is ideally situated for visiting other towns and villages in the area. I was visiting family so did not have much change to sightsee.

I flew to Ellon via Aberdeen for a funeral and did not look around Ellon. Because of the lack of flights I had to stay 2 nights at The Buchan and on the second day my room and towels and bed etc were left unattended. I got back to the hotel around 9 pm and everywhere was locked up and no staff found.

Ellon is a lovely town on the banks of the river Ythan with an array of excellent cafes and restaurants. If you have a car it is an ideal base for exploring Aberdeenshires wonderful coastal beaches including Collieston, Cruden Bay, Newborough. There is excellent golf in the area too as well as historic castles and houses: Haddo House, Castle Fraser and Fyvie nearby.

Ellon has a few nice wee shops, is on a river with lovely walks, the Brewdog brewery and bar are just a mile out of town, has an Aldi and a Tesco and is just 5 miles from the sea at Newburgh (gorgeous beach walks and look at seals) It is a great base for touring the area - we visited Inverurie, Portsoy (just over an hour away), Cullen and Portknockie. Also climbed Mither Tap in the Bennachie range on a glorious day. Not long to travel to Peterhead (visited the prison museum - great!) Lots of castles in the area but unable to visit due to Coronavirus. Did go to Slains near Cruden Bay though (ruin) which was fascinating. Just need to come back for the others!!
Restaurants - food at the New Inn Hotel is superb. Also visited The View (appropriately named) at Newburgh.
People in town all friendly and helpful. Ellon a great wee place....
Good location, feels like you’re in the outskirts but a short walk across the bridge and you are in the centre of town. Restaurants, shops and bars are almost on the doorstep. The house is very comfortable and extremely well equipped with just about everything one could need. We would definitely return as Ellon is a lovely town and very well placed within Aberdeenshire making exploring the area easy. The host had left us full instructions about the property which made for a very pleasant stay.
Easy access to property, ideal secure garden for the dogs, excellent size kitchen and well equipped and good sized bedroom's, clean on arrival, and living room a good size for a family, nice and quiet location with short walk to ythan hotel which does great food, although not dog friendly in restaurant but good undercover seating outside for you and dogs. Overall a great property in a great location with easy access nearby beaches and supermarkets.
This was a nice little spot to stop for us between Aberdeen and Inverness and the proximity to the seal beach was wonderful! The staff were really friendly, the room was well equipped, and there was a great bathroom. Nice restaurant where we had an excellent dinner (and huge whisky selection) and delicious breakfast with great options!
The location was perfect for me. The host was friendly and informative. Lovely big back garden, close to the beach and the seals. Close to the bus and it wasn’t too bad getting around. Very easy to get to Eberdeen. As a solo female traveller I felt safe in all Newburgh and Ellon travels.
Very good value for money - staff excellent and the breakfast was all you could ask for - one little thing is that Room 9 is a little small and the shower needs fixing as water kept going on off on off - reported it to the hotel so hope it gets fixed otherwise no complaints
Amazing wee place, right in the centre of Ellon, river walk on the door step, very cozy and comfortable stay.
We visited as part of my partners birthday, host accommodated at my request and hung banners and balloons for our arrival, Avril is a brilliant host.
Jo was a wonderful host and made sure I was comfortable. Lively comfortable
bed and facilities plus gorgeous breakfast. Lots of choice at breakfast. Will be going back over the next several years whilst my son is studying medicine up in Aberdeen!!!!
This hotel is fantastic, we upgraded to the one bed apartment and it still
Included breakfast. The restaurant is outstanding with a excellent food being served. I can’t wait to have another visit to this hotel, staff are so friendly and helpful
The hotel is conviently placed for exploring Ellon, very friendly staff and the food was good. Room was a bit on the small side and the bathroom was cramped but apart from that had a good stay and would definitely go back.
We had a two night stay and our room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel was quiet but we got a warm welcome at reception from the owner. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast on both days. Very good value for money.
This property truly provides superior lodging. I stayed in several nice hotels in Scotland on this trip, and The New Inn stood out as the best. The common areas and room were spotless. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Generally decent place to stay,
Room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and dinner delicious, from a varied menu.
Set in an ideal location to walk dogs and access to the beach.
